Our Day Program represents a critical step in your recovery journey, offering the intensive therapeutic support you need while preserving the connections to your home, work, and community that are essential for long-term success [1].
Our Day Program is a comprehensive addiction treatment service that bridges the gap between residential care and traditional outpatient therapy. You’ll participate in structured therapeutic activities during the day while returning home each evening, maintaining your support network and daily routines.
This intensive treatment approach addresses all types of substance use disorders, including:
Your mental wellness is at the core of our Day Program. Our licensed clinicians provide individual therapy, group counseling, and specialized treatment for co-occurring conditions such as depression, anxiety, and trauma. Research demonstrates that treating mental health alongside addiction significantly improves recovery outcomes [2].
We help you develop healthy coping strategies and emotional regulation skills through evidence-based therapies. Our program includes cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and mindfulness practices to strengthen your emotional foundation.
Community is a core theme across all our levels of care, Day Rehab is unique in providing a structured way for clients to re-engage with their communities. This component offers significant support as they practice these skills and reintegrate into daily life.
Your physical health directly impacts your recovery success. We incorporate exercise therapy and nutrition education into your treatment plan, recognizing that physical wellness supports mental and emotional stability [3].
Our Day Program runs Monday through Friday at our NYC treatment center.
We focus on practical skills that support your recovery beyond treatment:
Work one-on-one with your dedicated therapist to address personal challenges, trauma, and develop personalized coping strategies.
Connect with others who understand your journey. Group sessions provide peer support and help you practice new skills in a safe environment.
Addiction affects entire families. We offer family therapy sessions to heal relationships and build stronger support systems for your recovery. We also offer a monthly weekend program and a weekly support group.
Our multidisciplinary team includes addiction counselors, psychiatrists, social workers, and peer recovery specialists who work together to support your unique needs.
Studies show that intensive day programs like ours help individuals maintain sobriety while developing essential life skills.

A day treatment program, also known as an intensive outpatient program, provides structured addiction therapy and support during daytime hours while allowing participants to return home each evening. This approach combines intensive treatment with the ability to maintain work, school, and family responsibilities.
Day programs typically last several weeks, depending on individual needs and progress. At Ascendant New York, our program length is typically 6-10 weeks, but we customize program length based on your specific recovery goals and clinical assessment. Most participants attend 6 hours per day, 5 days per week.
Day treatment programs offer significantly more intensive support than traditional outpatient therapy. Instead of one weekly session, you’ll participate in multiple daily therapeutic activities, including individual therapy, group sessions, life skills training, and experiential therapies.
Many participants successfully balance work or school with their day program schedule. Our program runs from 9 am to 4:30 pm and allows you to return home in the evening to help you maintain important life responsibilities while focusing on recovery.
Most major insurance plans cover day treatment programs as they’re considered medically necessary intensive outpatient services. Our admissions team works directly with insurance providers to verify coverage and minimize out-of-pocket costs.
Our comprehensive day program addresses all substance use disorders, including alcohol addiction, opioid dependence, meth, cocaine, and stimulant abuse, prescription drug addiction, and marijuana dependence. We also treat co-occurring mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, and trauma.
Day programs are ideal if you need more support than weekly therapy but don’t require 24-hour residential care. This level of care works well for individuals who have completed detox, have stable housing, and want to maintain their daily life while receiving intensive addiction treatment.
Upon completion, we help you transition to appropriate continuing care, which may include traditional outpatient therapy, support groups, or step-down services. Our team creates a comprehensive aftercare plan to support your long-term recovery success.
